The Philips Zoom Whitening System is one of the safest and most effective teeth whitening options available to patients. If you’ve opted for the in-chair or at-home teeth whitening, these Philips Zoom Whitening instructions can help you achieve and maintain your white smile.

Philips Zoom Whitening System: How Does it Work?

There are two Philips Zoom teeth whitening options: In-chair or at-home kits. The right one for your smile depends on various factors, including:

  • Health of your teeth and gums
  • Extent of staining
  • Time and convenience

Philips Zoom uses concentrated bleaching hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide agents to the surface of your teeth. However, what sets Philips Zoom teeth whitening apart from other whiteners is it contains desensitisation compounds. This helps reduce any discomfort from sensitivity after teeth whitening, which is typical.

Before your teeth whitening treatment, we recommend a thorough cleaning with our dentists so you can achieve the best results.

Philips Zoom Whitening Instructions: In-Chair

At Sydney Dental Group, we offer in-chair teeth whitening for deep stains and fast results. We ensure that your gums and teeth are in good health, addressing any gum disease or tooth decay before your whitening appointment. While Philips Zoom will not damage existing dental work. It does not whiten bridges, crowns, veneers, or caps. If you need these repairs, we perform them after whitening to match them to your new white shade.

On the day of your in-chair treatment, we cover your gums and lips, leaving your teeth exposed, and carefully apply the bleaching gel. We then turn on the Zoom blue UV light which activates the bleaching agents to reach deep stains and remove discolouration. This light remains on your teeth for 10-15 minutes, and then we remove the gel to check the shade.

We repeat these steps three times until we reach your desired whiteness. This process can be completed in less than an hour, and after we apply a desensitising gel to minimise any discomfort.

Philips Zoom Whitening Instructions: At Home

While in-chair teeth whitening is the fastest way to rejuvenate your smile, if you only have mild staining and prefer more gradual results, you can use Philips Zoom teeth whitening in the comfort of your home. This professional-grade teeth whitening system is carefully tailored to your teeth and overseen by your highly trained Sydney Dental Group dentist. We take an impression of your mouth to create custom-fitted trays that fit securely over your teeth

Your dentist shows you how to fill the trays with the bleaching agent, and how long to wear them each day, depending on the shade you wish to achieve. Philips Zoom offers two at-home teeth whitening systems: NiteWhite and DayWhite.

Zoom NiteWhite can provide optimal results in as little as one week. If you use the 10% or 16% carbamide peroxide gel, wear the trays while you sleep for 2-6 hours. If you choose the 22% CP gel, wear it for 1-2 hours each night while you unwind with a TV show or read a book.

Zoom DayWhite solutions come in 9.5% and 14% hydrogen peroxide options. Wear the 9.5% solution trays for 30 minutes twice a day, or the 14% gel for 15 minutes twice a day. Philips Zoom DayWhite trays can get you to your desired shade in two weeks.

To use your custom trays, brush and floss your teeth thoroughly first. Use the included syringe to drop the bleaching gel into the tooth compartments of the trays. Fit the trays over your teeth; if any gel appears above or around the trays, use a cotton swab to wipe it away.

Wear the trays for the allotted time, depending on the treatment, and wash them thoroughly with cold water when done. Rinse your mouth out with lukewarm water and then brush your teeth with warm water.

Philips Zoom Whitening Instructions: Aftercare

Philips Zoom teeth whitening can provide you with a dazzling white smile for up to 2 years, but your optimal shade’s longevity depends heavily on your aftercare habits. It is essential to limit foods and beverages that stain your teeth as much as possible, such as coffee, red wine, tea, soda, chocolate, tomato sauce, berries, and dark candies. You must avoid these items entirely for at least one week after your teeth whitening treatment.

If you chew or smoke tobacco, consider quitting. Tobacco and nicotine stains build up quickly, which means you’ll require more frequent top-ups and whitening treatments.

Brush and floss your teeth gently at least twice daily. Do not brush too hard to avoid wearing down the enamel and irritating your gums. Rinse your mouth with mouthwash at least once per day. These oral hygiene habits help maintain your natural white smile for longer.

If you have any tooth sensitivity, use a desensitising toothpaste until the discomfort subsides.
